About the Airfield
Key Historical Milestones
In the 1950s, the Czechoslovak Airlines (ČSA) established a grass military airfield south of Erpužice, originally used as a backup airfield by the 45th Artillery Reconnaissance Regiment from Líně, operating IL-10 aircraft and later MiG-15 jets between 1965–67. After its decommissioning in 1969, the airfield (originally over 2,000 meters long) was taken over as a reserve base by the 5th Fighter Air Regiment from Líně. MiG-15s and later MiG-17s operated from here until 1972.
Later, the eastern part of the airfield, still under military ownership, was used by Slovair for crop-dusting operations. From 1996 to 2001, the newly formed Aeroclub Erpužice rented the area. The airfield was also occasionally used as a base for military parachute training. Day and night training flights were conducted on the illuminated runway.
Since 2001, the airfield has been privately owned and operated by Aeroclub Erpužice, z.s. A large arched hangar structure was relocated here from a decommissioned military airfield in Plzeň–Borečky, where it had been designated for demolition. After disassembly, it was transported to Erpužice, rebuilt, and given a new exterior. The hangar originally dates back to 1928 and is now one of the airfield’s architectural highlights.
